Let’s take a virtual trip to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground today for a tour of the Meadow Recreation Area, the Bike Barn, and the amphitheater used for Chip ‘n Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long. We had the chance to tour the area and learn about the recreation options available to guests of Fort Wilderness as part of a media event earlier this year.

If you’re the kind of Walt Disney World vacationer who likes to build a resort day or two into your stay, Fort Wilderness has plenty of resort recreation options to keep you busy.

First stop on our tour today will be to the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool. Guests staying at Fort Wilderness have two pools to choose from: the larger, more centralized Meadow Pool and the quieter, more off of the beaten path Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool.

The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool is quite large, and features a water tower-themed slide for guests to enjoy.

A whirlpool spa is also available at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool.

The little ones will enjoy a water play area of their very own that features toddler-sized slides and fountains.

I don’t know about you, but as a kid, one of my favorite things about going to the pool was getting to stop by the snack stand. Meadow Snack Bar is open every day from 11am until 5pm, weather permitting. Snacks, including Mickey pretzels and nachos, entrées for both adults and kids, and beverages for all ages, are offered at this location.

The Bike Barn (open daily 9am-5pm) is located adjacent to the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool, and is the spot that offers guests the chance to rent all things needed for a resort day at the Fort. At the Bike Barn, guests can rent golf carts for $67 a day.

Kayaks, canoes, and bicycles can also be rented from the Bike Barn, as can fishing gear. Fishing excursions and trail adventures can also be booked here.

At the Bike Barn, guests can also sign up for the Wine and Woodshop class, available at an extra charge. The class takes place at Crockett’s Tavern on Wednesdays from 1-3pm. Class participants will have the chance to create a personalized piece of artwork (shown above), and will enjoy snacks and a beverage.

Near the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool, you’ll find a sports area complete with sand volleyball court, picnic pavilion, and tennis courts.

Guests are free to utilize the picnic tables and pavilion on a first come, first served basis.

A playground for the kids (3-12 years old) is also located at the Meadow Recreation Area. Children must be supervised at all times.

Just down the path from the Bike Barn, guests will find the amphitheater that hosts the nightly Chip ‘n Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long.

I’ve been told that this event is one not to be missed if you’re staying at Fort Wilderness. The evening begins with a campfire lighting, and guests are able, weather and circumstance permitting, to purchase s’mores kits and other snacks from The Chuck Wagon, located at the venue.

After the cowboy-themed sing-a-long, during which the lovable Chip and Dale make an appearance, guests can stay to watch a movie.
