EPCOT Overview

EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, opened on October 1, 1982. It was conceived by Walt Disney to take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry.

“The EPCOT Center logo symbolizes unity, fellowship and harmony around the world. Five outer rings are linked to form the shape of a flower — a celebration of life. The heart of the logo is the Earth, embraced by a star symbolizing hope — the hope that with imagination, commitment and dedication, we can create a better tomorrow.“ - Marty Sklar

EPCOT is now unified with four neighborhoods that each speak to important aspects of the world and its people: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature and World Discovery. These neighborhoods are filled with new experiences rooted in authenticity and innovation that take guests to new destinations, where the real is made fantastic in a celebration of curiosity, discovery and the magic of possibility.

In the very front of the park is the iconic Spaceship Earth. Located inside the iconic "golf ball", Spaceship Earth is a slow-moving attraction that tells the history of communication and where communication may be headed in the future. If you stick around until dark, you'll be treated to a lighting display as Spaceship Earth lights up in a spectacular fashion.

For many years, EPCOT was considered an 'adult' park. Disney worked hard to overcome this reputation and most have discovered that kids can have a blast visiting EPCOT, including the 'boring' countries.

One of the best things that was done was to introduce Kidcot Fun Stops in World Showcase. Kids can create a free (yes, you read that right!) souvenir to take home with them. Take advantage of the Kidcot Fun Stops and think twice about watching some of the movies at several of the countries. If your child balks at one of them, move on to another one.

Luminous the Symphony of Us made its debut on December 5, 2023. This nighttime spectacular brings guests together around World Showcase Lagoon and shines a light on the shared experiences that connect people across the globe. With a dazzling display of fireworks, fountains, lights and music, the new show will be the perfect finale to a memorable day at EPCOT.

One of the absolute best features of this park is how wide open and expansive it is. If you're feeling hemmed in at the other theme parks, hop on a boat, bus, the Disney Skyliner, or monorail and get yourself to EPCOT.

EPCOT's Transformation!

Walt Disney once said EPCOT “would always be in a state of becoming” – it is a place that changes with the times. EPCOT lives up to that promise in a whole new way as it continues the biggest transformation of any Disney park in history, bringing the next generation of immersive storytelling to life through a plethora of new attractions and experiences.

WORLD CELEBRATION

As guests pass Spaceship Earth, they will discover a breathtaking new view of World Showcase from Dreamers Point. World Celebration now features a statue that honors the legacy of the original dreamer, Walt Disney.
Surrounding this enchanted garden are Creations Shop, Club Cool, Connections Cafe and Eatery, and in the future, a newly reimagined festival area that, once open, will be home to ever-changing events in a unique new environment.
CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall will both open to guests on June 10, 2024. While CommuniCore Hall will be home to the iconic EPCOT festivals and other celebrations, it’ll also be a perfect cool indoor space year-round for guests and their families to recharge. A new character greeting location – Mickey & Friends – will also debut here!
A brand new sing-along show – ¡Celebración Encanto! – will also debut on CommuniCore Plaza’s stage June 10, 2024!

WORLD NATURE

World Nature is dedicated to understanding and preserving the beauty, awe and balance of the natural world and includes The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilions.
Journey of Water, inspired by Moana, is the first Disney Parks experience inspired by the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film. This lush exploration trail invites guests to meet and play with magical, living water. Just like Moana’s friend the ocean, water has a personality of its own, helping guests learn how to protect the natural water cycle in a fun and engaging way.

WORLD DISCOVERY

In World Discovery, stories about science, technology and intergalactic adventure come to life.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT. The adventure starts in the Galaxarium, a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. Guests are invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. The attraction features new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering – a storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees to focus guests on the action, including the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster. On the ride, guests experience the thrill and adventure of space travel.
In an expansion of the Mission: SPACE pavilion, Space 220, is a culinary experience that offers the celestial panorama of a space station, including daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up.

WORLD SHOWCASE

World Showcase will continue to be a celebration of culture, cuisine, architecture and traditions – infused with new magic.
Much like a beautiful piece of music, Luminous the Symphony of Us is made up of a series of movements representing common themes of the human experience. Guests can expect to hear new arrangements of iconic Disney hits that enliven the story throughout the show.
